With his 3 Rumi’s, a Bol d’Or,(original colour scheme) Tipo sport and a Formi. They have been restored by me over the last 15yrs. All road worthy. The Tipo was my machine of choice in the 1960’s. The other two I acquired in the 70’s. A lifetime Rumi fan!
Here is a photo of me on my Rumi. It is an early Formichino dating from 1955, that spent most of its life in Lyon France before being imported by someone into the UK 2001. As I might have said before, Ken rebuilt the engine and Paul worked wonders helping me remove and install the engine before and after. And it was a bit of a game getting it to start and run right, but with Paul's perseverance it has been on the road and used over the last few years and goes lovely.
My inherited Rumi Formichino - before and after. Not a massive bike fan but during COVID years wanted a project and fell in love with the Rumi that was hidden over the garage under piles of wood (with the Honda as well) Evenings and weekends spent stripping and rebuilding. My daughter enjoyed it when we won first place at a vehicle show!
Ian and I am an enthusiastic collector and rider of small Italian bikes . I was delighted to add a Rumi to my garage last year and here it is, an early 3 speed
My bike is a 56 I bought from a guy in Croydon 18 months ago. Been off the road since 83. Got it running and have since been stripping the paint and with Paul’s help, the forks have been rebuilt
Here's a picture of me on my Rumi setting off on the Kop Hill Climb last year. I afraid the quality is poor as I took it from a youtube video. Iv'e owned this Rumi since about 1968 bit have only just got around to getting it back on the road. Its registered as a 1963 Formichino so I guess that as Rumi packed up in 1960 it must have been one of the models made up from parts by the importer. Its a little bit 'non-standard' as I've cut down the crash rail by 5cm each side and the handlebars are slightly smaller as well as a smaller saddle. The engine has also been modified although still looks standard.
Ray’s beautiful collection includes a Turismo, Junior, Tipo Sport and Formichino, showcasing a wonderful range of these iconic Italian machines. Ray is truly passionate about Rumis, taking great pride in preserving, maintaining and sharing his enthusiasm for the marque. His dedication reflects the spirit of the Rumi community - celebrating engineering, style and heritage while keeping these classic bikes enjoyed and appreciated for generations to come.
I am Nick , and I own a 1954 Rumi Turismo Lusso. It is a 4 gear model, and the gearbox still includes the 'splash wheel'. The bike was originally owned in France, and was imported to the UK by Graham Fisher, who sold it to me in 2016. The bike was NOVA, but still on French registration plates. The UK registration process was painless and quite quick. My bike's frame number is 15783 and engine 1B.14954. Engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Ken Brittain in 2020. The only significant modification I have made is to fit a Rex Caunt electronic ignition system Photo attached is of me riding the Rumi to a show in Churt in 2024, where the Rumi won the cup for best pre-1970 bike. Also attached is a close-up of my bike, with Paul Stokes' blue Formichino in the background. Photo taken at Jacks in Bagshot in 2020. No longer a bike meeting point. The cafe that was there was demolished and old peoples' flats built.
